As well as being a source of personal growth, education is a powerful tool in tackling inequality and promoting human rights.
Giving everyone access to free, high-quality education helps end the cycle of poverty, opens up opportunities to build a future, and provides the keys to a long and healthy life.
Today, a young person’s social and geographical background is still too much of a systematic determinant of their educational performance. Giving all schoolchildren an equal chance to find their path, supporting their choices, tackling the education crisis in priority neighbourhoods and rural areas, providing new opportunities to young people who have slipped out of the system – all these actions are needed to build a fairer society.
For more than 15 years now, the LBP AM Group Foundation – convinced that education is essential in giving each individual the resources to choose and build their future – has supported charities that work to reduce inequality in access to education. These organisations use innovative approaches such as alternative teaching methods and project learning, concentrating on the acquisition of core skills and tackling educational exclusion for young people facing educational or socio-cultural challenges.
The health crisis we are now suffering has worsened existing inequalities and challenges in education: children and young people have been hit hard. The risks of interruptions to educational careers, exclusion or early withdrawal from education have increased, particularly for pupils and students from poorer backgrounds.
It is therefore more necessary than ever to support charities and projects seeking to reduce the inequalities and weaknesses that have been exacerbated by the crisis.
